A popular destination with both locals and tourists alike, the seaside town has plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy. I loved living here during lockdown and in some ways I kind of miss the place. Scroll through for some ideas of things to do on a trip to South Queensferry!
Go to a restaurant overlooking the sea
There’s just that extra something about having food by the sea. The food tastes just that extra bit nicer, doesn’t it? Thankfully South Queensferry isn’t lacking in restaurants and cafes. I had a particularly enjoyable visit to a restaurant by the sea over the summer, visiting the Railbridge Bistro. Sitting outside in the sun here truly is blissful. And if it is a colder day, you can always sit inside – you’ll still get the view of the bridges.
2. Go on a walking tour

3. Visit the Queensferry Mosaic Mural
Created by a group of 70 locals, the Queensferry Mosaic Mural is a hidden gem of the town. Only opening in 2019, the fairly new attraction is located within a garden. Definitely one to visit.

4. Go on an Inchcolm Island guided tour
This is a truly one-off new experience in 2022. Take the boat to Inchcolm Island and explore the three bridges up close. Then discover the history of the island with a guided walking tour. From its iconic abbey, to Second World War defences, and an array of wildlife – Inchcolm Island has a fascinating history that can still be seen today!

5. Visit Hawes Inn
The place has incredibly interesting ties to the famed author Robert Louis Stevenson. Apparently, while staying in room thirteen, he came up with the plot of his novel “Kidnapped”. Indeed, part of the book is actually set within the walls of the pub. Today, visitors can taste all sorts of delicacies from the pub. There is also an outdoor seating area, for the nicer days.
